Many of harness racing’s top older pacers have been nominated for Western Fair Raceway’s signature races, the Molson Pace and its distaff companion event, the Forest City Pace
.
The Molson Pace will anchor the London, Ont. track’s 50th anniversary celebrations in May. The eliminations are scheduled for Friday, May 20 with the $225,000 (added) final the following week, May 27.
Foiled Again, who lost last year’s final of the Molson Pace by a very narrow margin to his stablemate Won The West, has been nominated to the event again this year. The Burke Racing Stable will be hoping that the third time is the charm for the seven-year-old winner of more than $2 million who also started in the 2009 edition of the Molson Pace. He won his elimination but was fifth in the final that year.
Stonebridge Terror, a winner of $743,000 lifetime, finished a close third in last year’s contest and is nominated for the 2011 event, as is Annieswesterncard. The latter, a winner of $861,000 from the stable of trainer Joe Seekman, was fourth in last year’s Molson Pace.
On the distaff side, returning champion and 2010 Canadian Horse of the Year Dreamfair Eternal has been nominated for the 2011 Forest City Pace, which is slated to go postward with eliminations on November 19. The $150,000 (added) final is scheduled for November 26.
The winner of $1.7 million lifetime has many formidable foes on the nomination list, including fellow millionaires Western Silk, Put On A Show, Chancey Lady and Ginger And Fred. In addition, 10 other nominees have over $600,000 banked in their careers – APs Money Maker, Arts Diva, Blissful Smile, Cuz She Can, Hulas Z Tam, Omen Hanover, Shanghai Lil, Ticket To Rock, Tiz To Dream and Voelz Hanover.
