Trot Insider has learned that stakes-winning trotter Brylin Image has passed away at the age of 26.

A homebred owned and developed by George & Marcia Peters, Brylin Image (Balanced Image - Lou Macs Glory) wasn't as successful on the racetrack as his Hall of Fame sibling Glorys Comet, but he forged a solid career nonetheless. He captured the 1997 Canadian Breeders Championship as a two-year-old and also finished in a dead-heat in the 1998 Colonial Trot at Woodbine.

Over the course of his 107-start career, Brylin Image finished in the top three 34 times and banked more than $292,000. Owner George Peters fondly recalled the trotter's on-track exploits.

"He was a late colt, he was a June colt. He never really got going in his two-year-old year until we had some snow and frost because it turned out he had allergies," Peters told Trot Insider. "He was never the same [after a trip to Illinois as a sophomore]. There were always lameness issues, breathing issues, had a tie back, he had this and that...It wasn't until pretty much the end of his career that it dawned on me that we didn't know anything about EPM back then. And I think that was the whole problem with him was the EPM. He must have picked it up somehow on that trip. He ended up making $300,000, but he just never was the horse he could have been."

After retiring from racing in 2005, Brylin Image ('Bart' to his connections) enjoyed retirement along Glorys Comet in the care of David Lee. Glorys Comet passed away nearly five years ago in March 2016, and Brylin Image enjoyed the company of cattle up until his passing from natural causes earlier this week.

"He had a good life, and he gave us lots of pleasure," said George & Marcia.
