Longtime horseman Michael 'Mike' Jarvis passed away on Thursday, March 24 at the age of 70.

Mike’s biggest passion was horse racing. He started racing at the age of 11 at the Collingwood Fairgrounds, cleaning stalls for Clarence Lockhart for 50 cents an hour. He also worked for Keith Waples when he was young.

He drove his first race at Barrie Raceway when he was 19 and won with a pacer named Problem Drinker. His fastest victory was with Armbro Liqueur in 1:50 at Woodbine.

In his final days, he was working for Erv Miller at Southern Oaks Training Center in Florida doing what he loved to do.

He will be missed by his children Tanya (Jeff), Rob and Justin; his grandchildren Savannah, Addison and Oakley; brother Randy; sisters Bev and Nancy; parents Fred and Jean; and many nieces and nephews.

Mike was a larger than life character. He was never shy to share his opinions. Spent a lot of my youth at the track with Mike. Really enjoyed the time I spent with him. Sorry to hear of his passing.

So sorry, hope he went peacefully and glad he was doing what he loved right up till the end, awesome.
Can still remember his wonderful laugh mega years later, always had a smile on his face. RIP Mike.
Thoughts and Prayers to the family.
