Standardbred Canada is pleased to announce that this year’s edition of the Trot Canada National Handicapping

Championship is scheduled for Sunday, November 8 at Rideau Carleton Raceway in Ottawa.

The 2009 event from the nation’s capital will mark the third consecutive year that Standardbred Canada will co-ordinate the TCNHC.

“We are looking forward to hosting this major event. We really feel the racing fans and handicappers will enjoy the city of Ottawa and all that it has to offer,” said Anne Davis, marketing co-ordinator for Rideau Carleton.

Participants who qualify will be invited to come to Ottawa for three days so that they can enjoy some of the area’s tourist attractions.

The Trot Canada National Handicapping Championship is a nationwide initiative aimed at fans and horseplayers. During the next seven months, racetracks and industry organizations across Canada will hold regional qualifying events.

Blair Greenfield of Brantford, Ont., won the 2008 edition of the TCNHC and a $25,000 grand prize. Leni Caldwell, who qualified at Fraser Downs in BC, was the runner-up and Donna Parker from Hampton, Ont. was third.

In 2007, Rocco 'Rocky' Dibello from Richmond Hill, Ont. was crowned champion in the inaugural edition of the TCNHC. Dibello edged out Ian Hollingsworth from Edmonton, Alberta, while Charlottetown’s Brent MacDougall picked up the show prize. Woodbine Racetrack was the host venue for the first two years of this national competition.
