As a result of the current coronavirus situation, races in Denmark and Italy have been cancelled.
With Thursday’s (March 12) announcement that all races in Denmark are canceled for the next 14 days, Denmark follows Italy, where all races have been canceled since Tuesday (March 10), a ban which will last to the end of March.
Sweden and Norway have chosen to carry out planned race days, but without the public and with restrictions on who may enter the barn grounds.
In Finland, no precautions have yet been taken.
In Germany, there is also business as usual in harness racing, where on Friday (March 13) there are races on the track in Mönchen-Gladbach and on Sunday (March 15) in Berlin. In contrast, German flat racing has canceled individual race days and others are run in front of empty stands.
No measures have been taken in the Netherlands or Belgium.
In Austria, there are races on the Krieau track in Vienna. Here the audience has access to outdoor areas.
In France, several race days have already been run without the public, and more will be.
In Spain, two race days on the flat in Madrid are canceled, but the harness races at the Balearic Islands, Mallorca and Menorca are being held as normal.
