A full 100 years before the confederation of Canada, the first advertised horse race took place in 1767 on the Plains of Abraham. The race was won by a mare, ironically, named Modesty and her rider, Captain Prescott. Two hundred and fifty years later, while the country is celebrating its 150th anniversary, we are celebrating the thrilling and diverse sporting industry that grew out of that moment in a unique collectors’ edition magazine.

From humble beginnings as an amusing pastime for soldiers, horse racing in Canada developed into a massive industry thanks to the passionate involvement and contributions of Canadians from coast to coast. Their influence will be documented in this exclusive glossy publication which will feature the people, horses and pivotal moments in the history of Thoroughbred, Standardbred, and Quarter Horse racing that made the sports what they are today.

With contributions from award winning Canadian journalists covering the three breeds, readers will learn about the struggles and the victories of those who helped to build and shape horse racing from its origins.

From the Charlottetown Driving Park in PEI to the Hastings Racetrack in British Columbia, plus a little horse named Northern Dancer in between, the special magazine will celebrate the entire industry and will be a must-have part of every racing fan’s library. Limited advertising space is available, call or email Dianne Denby before March 15 to reserve: 800-505-7428; [email protected]. Ask Dianne about special rates for the IN HONOUR section recognizing horses and people, both past and present.

Copies will be available on newsstands and racetracks across Canada this spring. Proceeds from the sale of this publication will be donated to the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame in support of its important work in preserving the sport’s heritage.

Order your advance copy for only $15 by calling 1-800-505-7428 or emailing [email protected].
