Auction Items For Barrieau Benefit

Once again, the harness racing world has shown its tremendous generosity and donated a stellar list of auction items in support of injured Maritime trainer-driver Gilles Barrieau

.

The auction will be held Saturday, Feb. 4 at Exhibition Park Raceway in Saint John, Barrieau’s home base.

The veteran horseman was injured twice late last year, breaking a wrist in a racing accident at Truro in October and later suffering a fractured femur in his right leg after being kicked by a yearling in a stable accident.

Barrieau has been out of action several months and a group of horsemen and horsewomen from New Brunswick have organized the Feb. 4 benefit for him.

Items include breedings, autographed colours, collectibles, equipment and more. To view the full list of items, visit the Horse Racing New Brunswick website.

Further information is available from Sandra Foley at 506-454-3415 or Dave MacLean at 506-343-6484.

Gilles Barrieau is almost undoubtedly the most accomplished horseman in the Maritimes over the past 15 years or so, and I don't mean to undermine the efforts and accomplishments of others in saying that. His uncle Marcel was on the cutting edge of Maritime racing when the "miracle mile" (sub two-minute) mile was looking like a reality in the Maritimes with the great pacing stallion Angel's Shadow. The Barrieau Family name, means to Maritime racing, what the Waples name means to Ontario racing.
There are some excellent items in this fundraiser to be auctioned off and I certainly hope that people realize the importance of helping out and participating in this event so that Gilles Barrieau will be able to get back on his feet and in the race bike and continue his incredible career.
Good luck Gilles
