With winter ‘officially’ set to start on the calendar in just a couple of weeks and ‘unofficially’ here already in much of the country, Pompano Park has announced that it has approximately 60 stalls available as its 2014-2015 season moves into high gear.
Brett Revington, the track director of racing, said that there are a number of very positive things happening at the south Florida oval.
“First,” he said, “we have just had a purse increase in all classes with a second one just around the corner. Second, we have 18 late-closing events for claimers ranging from $25,000 tags down to $4,000. They each have two legs and a final and, beginning in January, will provide excellent racing opportunities for all classes of claiming horses.”
Revington went on to say, “the unique thing about these events is the added perk that, if a horse wins the two legs and the final for the same connections, there is a bonus further enhancing the event.”
For information and nomination forms to Isle Casino Racing Pompano Park’s late-closing events, go to the track’s website and click under the tab entitled ‘Horsemen.’ Nominations are due no later than Friday, January 2, 2015.
Revington expects an excellent response to these lucrative events saying, “These late closers are potentially worth $225,000 to horsemen, and," he continued with a smile, "the long range weather forecast from now through April is sunny and warm with highs in the mid-to-upper 70s and lows in the mid-60s.”
Pompano Park will also bring back the $5,000 guarantee for its popular Pick-4 wager beginning Monday, December 8.
Currently on a four-day-a-week racing schedule, the track will be expanding to a five-day-a-week schedule with Sundays being added beginning with the December 14 program.
