On Monday, December 23, the New Jersey Department of Agriculture announced that an 18-year-old Standardbred has been confirmed as positive for Equine Myeloencephalopathy (EHM).
EHM is the often-deadly neurologic form of Equine Herpes Virus (EHV-1).
The NJDA has stated that the mare was euthanized December 18, 2019 due to the positive.
The department has also stated that other horses in the premises have been placed under quarantine, and that temperatures are also being taken twice daily on all quarantined horses to monitor for sickness.
