William 'Billy' Shuter, 81, died Dec. 19, 2009, in DeLeon Springs, Florida following a brief illness

Shuter was active in the sport for many years as a driver/trainer. According to USTA records, he drove 1,197 winners in his career, while his mounts banked $3,264,450.
A native of Shelbyville, Indiana, he campaigned on the Chicago circuit in the 1960s and 1970s. Horses he trained and drove included Hambletonian starter Speedy Rodney, free-for-all pacer Song Cycle, Real Speed, Ironworks and Jefferson.
Shuter winter trained a stable at Spring Garden Ranch in DeLeon Springs until retiring several years ago. After his retirement he was a daily fixture at the training centre, watching colts train.
He is survived by four children, including son Robert ('Bobby') and his wife, Jannice, both of whom are trainers at the Meadows.
A service will be held Saturday, December 26, at 1:00 p.m. at Spring Garden Ranch.
