Winter weather systems have wreaked havoc in many areas over the course of the past few days. The blasts of rain, sleet and snow have even affected pilot Doug McNair, who is on the cusp of resetting one of harness racing's driving records.

Currently with 999 career driving victories, it looked certain that the resident of Guelph, Ont. would hit the 1,000-win mark yesterday at London, Ont.'s Western Fair Raceway and become the youngster driver in the history of the sport to hit the milestone.

But, of course, in steps Mother Nature.

As explained during a piece by 'A' Sports Extra, McNair yesterday encountered travel delays, bad racing luck, and plain old back luck.

"Fate is fate. It'll happen whenever it happens," the reinsman said about the pending milestone. "I'm not going to get too worried about it."

McNair is listed to drive 10 horses on Western Fair's Tuesday, December 14 card of racing, which will kick off with a 3:35 p.m. first-race post time.

The track announced today that McNair will sit down with Western Fair Raceway Assistant Racing Manager and Announcer Greg Blanchard for the Tuesday pre-card show. McNair will discuss this past season and the quest to become the youngest driver to reach the 1,000-win mark.

The show will begin at 3:05 p.m. Questions for McNair may be sent to [email protected].

Those unable to watch the interview live may view it on Western Fair’s YouTube channel. Program pages and live video for the card are available at westernfair.com, and the track offers two Win-4s daily with a 15 per cent take out.
