Harry Whebby Passes

Trot Insider has learned that owner/horseman Harry Whebby, the last living member of the Jolity Horsemen's Club which operated Truro Raceway in the 1960s and '70s, passed away Tuesday, December 8 at home in Wellington

, NS with his family by his side. He was 94.

From the late 1950s through '70s, Harry partnered with his brother, Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame horseman Eric Whebby, on many horses. Eric's son, Wayne Whebby, spoke with Trot Insider about the passing of his uncle.

"He died peacefully at home with his family by his side," Wayne said. "He had an unbelievable passion for the industry -- he would call me every other day for an update on racing. He was sharp as a whip right up to the end."

Visitation for Harry will be taking place today from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Dartmouth Funeral Home on Queen Street. A funeral will be taking place at St. Peters Church, located beyond Maple Street, in Dartmouth at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 11.
