Standardbred Canada is seeking submissions for its 2024 Media Excellence Awards, to be presented at the 36th O'Brien Awards Gala on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025, at the Hilton Mississauga/Meadowvale in Mississauga, Ont.
There are three award categories: Outstanding Written Work, Outstanding Video, Film or Broadcast, and Outstanding Photograph.
The program is aimed at honouring those who have, through one piece of exceptional work, covered Canadian harness racing in a manner that is extraordinary and of broad national appeal.
Broadcast submissions will be restricted to 15 minutes in length. (In the case of longer broadcasts, the person submitting must provide a 15-minute excerpt.)

The 2023 Media Excellence Award winners are listed below.
Chris Lomon collected his first SC Media Excellence Award in the Outstanding Written Work category for his feature, “Felix Marion, Farrier to the Stars." The story, which was published in the January edition of TROT Magazine, highlights the passion, meticulous craftsmanship and dedication to the craft Felix Marion has as a farrier.
Ontario-based Woodbine Entertainment Group picked up its 11th SC Media Excellence Award in the Outstanding Broadcast category for its excerpt of "Pepsi North America Cup,” which aired on TSN on Saturday, June 17, 2023. This one-hour special broadcast of the $1 million Pepsi North America Cup aired in high definition and featured live race coverage of the main event. Commentary was provided by hosts Laura Diakun, Greg Blanchard and Mark McKelvie of Woodbine Entertainment, with the race call provided by Woodbine’s Ken Middleton.
Defending champion in the Outstanding Photography category, Clive Cohen, captured his eighth Media Excellence Award for his photograph, “The Rainbow," which shows two horses warming up under a rainbow. The photo was taken on July 20, 2023, at Woodbine Mohawk Park and published on the track's social media feeds.
