On Saturday, November 27, beginning at 1:00 p.m., the PEISHOA and Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park will be celebrating the annual Horse Person’s Day
.
Once again, the organizations will gather to participate in the recognition of PEI’s very best equine and human athletes, the horse people that provide and care for our stars -- and of course to acknowledge the industry's wonderful fan base.
The feature attraction on the day will be the 2010 edition of the PEI Horse Owners’ Driving Championship. The top drivers from PEI will be competing for the E.F. Acorn Memorial Trophy.
The following Drivers have qualified for this 2010 event, and all participants are members of the PEISHOA (the first five selections are based upon dash wins this year in Charlottetown).
(Up to and including the November 13 race program)
• Marc Campbell (81wins)
• Ken Arsenault (71)
• Mark Bradley (58)
• Brodie MacPhee (47)
• Corey MacPherson (46)
The next two qualifiers are based upon URS driver percentage, and come from a minimum number of 40 starts and less than 75.
• Shane Bernard (.481)
• Kuri White (.388)
The last two are based upon URS driver percentage, and come from over 75 starts:
• Terry Gallant (.317)
• Joey Pineau (.269)
The drivers will not only be competing for the E.F. Acorn Memorial Trophy and cash prizes based upon a point system, but also, after each race, winning owners and drivers receive gift certificates and race equipment.
Fans will have the opportunity to enter the 'Second Chance' contests by simply filling out a losing mutuel ticket to become eligible to win wagering vouchers, turkeys, merchandise and lots of other great prizes.
The day will conclude with a social gathering following the race program, located upstairs at Red Shores, in the Women’s Institute Room. The horse owners will host and provide free beverages, pizza, cash draws, and some fun events for those in attendance.
The PEISHOA extends an invitation to come out and enjoy a wonderful day of superb racing action.
