The fastest Atlantic-bred trotter ever on the Eastern Seaboard will return to the track in the Saturday afternoon (Nov. 14) top event at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The 12-dash Saturday presentation gets underway at 12:30 p.m., featuring the $2,350 Open Trot in the sixth race of the day.
Mile Hill Willie is the favourite with eight wins in his four-year-old campaign, including the track and regional trotting record of 1:56.3 in August. Kenny Arsenault is in the seat of the Paul Morrison trainee from Post 4 as the morning line choice in the field of five. Morrison co-owns the son of Armbro Barrister with John Breau of Shediac Cape, N.B. Cheeky Little Minx comes back up to the Open level for this start with the Gilles Barrieau-trained and -driven mare drawing Post 3 on Saturday. Glider Man will hold down the rail with David Dowling aboard for trainer Jennifer Doyle. Rounding out the field are Sailor Blue (Ken Murphy) and Daisy River (Jason Hughes).
Peter MacPhee with the Post Time Picks leans on Mile Hill Willie for the top spot. “What a season Mile Hill Willie is having with eight wins from 13 starts and a record of 1:56.3. He gets a new pilot and we’ll see what Kenny does but we think he’ll be on or near the lead at the start and finish.”
The top pace of the afternoon lines up in Race 11 for $2,250 with a tough group of aged pacing mares. Mrs Dragonfire is the top choice from Post 3 with Hughes getting the catch-driving call from trainer Jonah Moase and owner Neal Moase of Warren Grove. The Dragon Again lass has put together five straight top-three finishes and will look for the top prize on Saturday. The other top entries are on the outside of the starting gate, with Traces Of Purple (Marc Campbell) from Post 6 and Collective Wisdom (Gilles Barrieau) with Post 7.
