Do you have a good luck charm that you take to the races with you? Is it something that you won’t leave home without? Has it brought you lots of good luck in the past? Here’s your chance to share your story!

The I Love Canadian Harness Racing Fan Club wants to hear what your lucky charm is! For our November contest, we’re looking for Fan Club members to submit a short paragraph explaining what their lucky charm is and why or how it brings you good luck. We want to know what is bringing our fans luck at the track.

In 500 words or less, we want to know what your good luck charm is. Where and when did you get it? How did it become lucky for you? Has it brought you lots of good luck in the past?

E-mail your story to [email protected] by November 30, and you could be the winner of an ILCHR Fan Club Prize Package. If you have a photo of the good luck charm, or a photo of yourself with your good luck charm, feel free to send it along with your submission!

Facts behind lucky objects:

  • Horseshoe – A horseshoe has been associated with good luck for a long time. They are usually hung in homes to protect and attract good fortune for the family residing inside. Some believe that hanging it with the ends pointing upwards is good luck. Horseshoes are creations of blacksmiths, and blacksmithing was once considered a very lucky trade. Additionally, horses were known to be one of the most sacred of animals, making their crescent-shaped ‘shoes’ symbols of good luck.

  • Four Leaf Clover – Four leaf clovers are considered an Irish symbol of luck. A well-recognized symbol that means good luck to the person who finds it.

  • Penny – “Find a penny, pick it up, all day long you’ll have good luck!”
