Red Shores has announced that it has been forced to cancel its Thursday, October 6 card of live racing at Red Shores Charlottetown Driving Park
.
The cancellation has come due to storm related conditions which include heavy rain and high winds. A make-up date for the card has not yet been announced. The scheduled Thursday qualifying session has also been cancelled.
The next scheduled cards of live racing at the track are for Saturday, October 8 and Sunday, October 9. First-race post time for each card is 1:00 p.m.
The CDP's Saturday and Sunday cards will feature the Atlantic Breeders Crown --- also known as the Atlantic Sires Stakes championship weekend --- which showcases the best in Maritime harness racing.
The weekend will feature the best two and three-year-old trotters and pacers of the 2011 race season. The ABC has become a premier event in Maritime harness racing, and $130,000 in purse monies will be handed out to the weekend’s top performers.
The ABC weekend includes the prestigious championship finals on Sunday afternoon, with each of the four pacing divisions racing for $24,000 in purse money. Two invitational trotting events will also take place on Sunday, with each event carrying a purse of $7,000. The pacing consolations will head postward on Saturday afternoon.
Other events during the weekend include the Atlantic Classic Yearling Sale and the Atlantic Breeders Crown Banquet, which honours a year of excellence in Atlantic Canadian harness racing.
