Officials with Monticello Raceway have announced that efforts are underway by the North American Amateur Drivers Association and the Catskill Amateur Drivers Club to organize a race for military veterans that are also amateur harness drivers.
The plans are coming to fruition, according to NAADA Vice President Alan Schwartz.
Schwartz, a former Marine, has conveyed that the event will be held on Thursday, November 9. Schwartz is also the president of the Monticello Raceway’s Harness Horsemen’s Association.
Both NAADA and CADC will each donate $1,000 to the Veteran’s Food Pantry of Sullivan County, NY at the end of the November 9 racing card.
Both amateur organizations are urging those that plan on attending the afternoon’s race card to please bring along a non-perishable food item that can be delivered to the veteran’s food pantry.
Additionally, effective Wednesday (November 1), Monticello Raceway will revert to its winter post time of 12:25 p.m.
