Longtime horseman Stanley David 'Dave' Lewis of Leamington, Ont. passed away on October 23, 2013.

Born in Montreal, Quebec on June 2, 1958, Dave was a lifetime horseman. He first worked for Bob McIntosh at the age of 17. He then worked for Doug McIntosh for about 12 years. Dave went back to work for Bob McIntosh grooming and trucking horses all over Canada and the United States.

In the past few years Dave’s mobility had been challenged but he continued to love horses and enjoyed going to the races. At the recent four-day Leamington race meet Dave was right up at the fence to watch every race. A long-time volunteer at the Leamington Fair, Dave was also able to reconnect with his many friends and shared a lot of fond memories.

Dave comes from a long line of horsemen. His dad Stanley Lewis was a groom and trainer for over 50 years before he passed away in 1996. Dave has many uncles in the North Sydney area of Nova Scotia who are also involved in harness racing.

Dave will be buried next to his dad at Erie Memorial Gardens in Leamington, Ontario. Dave will be missed by his Mother, Marty Lewis of Leamington, his Sister, Midge and her family of Raleigh, N.C., his brother, Steve and his family of Leamington. Dave will also be missed by his large family of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of Dave Lewis.
