James T. 'Jim' Case, first president of the Delaware Standardbred Owners Association, who passed away recently, will be honoured by family and friends with a celebration of life, on Saturday, October 22
from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Magnolia Church Fellowship Hall near Dover, Delaware.
Case, a longtime Delaware horseman, passed away at age 81 on September 3 after retiring due to failing health in 2009. Following discharge from the Army, he continued his lifelong love of horses, first as a hobby, then after purchasing a yearling filly, Afton Love, his professional career began.
Case spent half-a-century training, driving and breeding standardbreds which he raced under the High Hope Stable non-de-plume. One of his early assistants was a young George Teague, Jr.
For several years, Case served on the board of Cloverleaf Standardbred Owners Association and for six years as its president representing at the time, Delaware and Maryland horsemen. In 1997, with the inception of the Delaware Standardbred Owners Association, the popular Case became DSOA president.
Contributions may be made to The James Case Scholarship Fund, c/o DSOA, 830 Walker Square, Suite 11-2, Dover, DE 19901. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a son or daughter of a DSOA horseman presently in college in his memory.
Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of Jim Case.
