Minor Refinements To Urging Penalties

The Ontario Racing Commission today announced minor refinements to the standardbred guidelines on

urging a horse in standardbred racing.

The change relates to a minor refinement of the penalty guidelines, specified through Policy Directive 5 – 2009. Earlier this month, minor refinements to the thoroughbred rules on urging were announced.

At a meeting on Thursday, September 24, 2009, the ORC resolved that the following directive be approved, effective immediately:

Penalty Guidelines Rule 22.23
Any violation of Rule 22.23, to include subsections 22.23.01, 22.23.02, 22.23.03 and 22.23.04 is an offence and covered by the penalty structure which appears below.

These minor refinements to the rules represent the ORC’s commitment to making the policy, rules, and practice work better, and not to significantly modify the rules.

As the racing community adjusts to the new rules on urging, the ORC is committed to continued communication so that consistency, fairness and the integrity of racing will be maintained.
