Extreme cold temperatures and high winds have forced numerous track cancellations for Tuesday, January 7.
The Raceway at Western Fair District has cancelled Tuesday's live program due to extreme cold temperatures in the London area. The Western Fair District has also closed its simulcast area for Tuesday, due to the fact that so many tracks have cancelled their live cards. The WFD simulcast area is scheduled to re-open Wednesday. Live harness racing will resume at the WFD on Friday night with a first-race post time of 7:05 p.m.
Due to the extreme cold that has caused many tracks to cancel racing, officials with Flamboro Downs have announced that the track will be closed for simulcasting on Tuesday.
Officials with Hanover Raceway have announced that the facility – including the slot-machine area – is closed until 8:30 a.m. Wednesday due to the weather.
Northfield Park is announcing the cancellation of the Tuesday (Jan. 7) race program. Cold temperatures and negative degree wind chill readings are expected in northeast Ohio.
Simulcasting continues as scheduled from 2:05 p.m. to approximately 8:00 p.m. Live racing will resume Wednesday (Jan. 8) with a 6:00 p.m. post time.
In a preemptive measure taken late last week, officials with the Meadows announced that they were going ahead and cancelling the raceway’s scheduled card for Tuesday, January 7 due to expected winter weather conditions. For more information on the cancellation, click here.
Yonkers Raceway has also cancelled its live racing program and all simulcasting for Tuesday, Jan. 7 due to the bone-chilling temperatures in the greater New York area...among other places. Live racing is scheduled to resume Thursday, Jan. 9, with the usual 7:10 p.m. first post. Afternoon simulcasting is scheduled to resume Wednesday, Jan. 8. Horsemen are advised that the draw for the Saturday, Jan. 11 card will be conducted as usual, with the entry box closing at 4 p.m. For more information, please contact the race office at 914-457-2627.
Due to the high winds and frigid temperatures, Monticello Raceway has cancelled its Tuesday, January 7 live racing program. Racing is scheduled to resume on Wednesday, January 8. First post will be at 12:25 p.m.
Due to the extreme cold that has caused many tracks to cancel racing, Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment and Winners Bayonne OTW will close for simulcasting at 6 p.m. Tuesday night. The Meadowlands and ‘Winners’ will resume normal simulcasting operations Wednesday at 11 a.m.
Thoroughbred racetracks Parx and Charles Town have also cancelled their Tuesday cards.
LOOKING FORWARD TO WEDNESDAY, officials with Buffalo Raceway have announced that the track’s opening-night card scheduled for Wednesday, January 8 has been cancelled. The track's card scheduled for Friday, January 10 has also been cancelled. For more information, click here.
