Longtime horseman Arthur “Joe” Jones of Denfield, Ont. passed away at St. Mary’s Memorial Hospital on Friday, Dec. 31, 2021, at the age of 85.

Beloved husband of the late Patricia “Pat” Jones for over 63 years. Dear father of Ruth Jones and Ruth’s chosen sister Connie and her children Shawn, Eric, Colin, and Robbie. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and his girl Tinkerbell. Missed by many friends and neighbours. Predeceased by parents Alvin and Verna (Vollans) Jones, parents-in-law Burt and Rhea (Rochleau) Conn, brother Ivan Jones (Doris), and brother-in-law Tom Williams (Catherine).

Joe was an avid outdoorsman, who loved hunting, fishing and farming. He raised and raced Standardbred horses for more than 40 years. Over the years, Joe looked forward to many kitchen visits with family, friends and neighbours. He will be remembered as a great storyteller and someone who was always up for a good joke. Joe liked a spirited game of euchre and cribbage, but he really enjoyed Pat’s cooking, especially her pies and Christmas cake.

He will be fondly remembered by many family and friends who will miss his quick wit and humour as he constantly reminded horsemen that you have to be smarter than the horse to teach it anything.

In keeping with Joe’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Due to COVID-19, a private invitation-only celebration of Pat and Joe’s life will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, Lucan (519-227-4211) on Saturday Jan. 8 at 1 p.m. Interment Siloam Cemetery. For those unable to attend in person, the family invites you to join with them from the comfort of your home. Stream the service live or at your convenience by visiting the Haskett Funeral Homes website.

Donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of Joe Jones.
