With great food, company, music, hosts, food, and, of course, incredible horses, it’s no wonder that the O’Brien Awards are one of the most anticipated annual events for horsepeople in Canada

.

This year, once again, your taste buds will be treated to the masterful culinary creations of the Delta Meadowvale Hotel’s very own international award-winning cuisine master, Chef Andrew Nelson and his team.

Chef Nelson started his career, like a promising young horse schooling for the races, washing dishes in a restaurant kitchen, but he had his sights set high from very early on. “The moment I picked up a pair of tongs and tossed my first Caesar salad, I was hooked,” he remembers fondly.

With over 20 years of professional culinary experience, he is now akin to a veteran stakes champion, having competed in and won numerous international competitions. Nelson has worked in many of the finest establishments in Toronto and was a member of the bronze medal Regional Canadian Culinary Team at the Expogast-Villeroy and Boch Culinary World Cup. Most recently, he won first prize, including an incredible trip to Italy, in Barilla’s ‘Calling All Chefs’ Pasta Recipe Competition. He and his talented team are now busy putting the finishing touches on the O’Brien bill of fare.

Along with the winners’ envelopes, the scrumptious details of the O’Brien menu are under secure lock and key, but they won’t be for long as the big night is fast approaching. We recommend arriving hungry!
