Breedings to stallions Vintage Master, Tell All, Astronomical and Feelin Friskie are among the items that will be up for grabs at a benefit auction
for injured Maritime trainer-driver Gilles Barrieau.
The auction will be held Saturday, Feb. 4 at Exhibition Park Raceway in Saint John, Barrieau’s home base.
The veteran horseman was injured twice late last year, breaking a wrist in a racing accident at Truro in October and later suffering a fractured femur in his right leg after being kicked by a yearling in a stable accident.
Barrieau has been out of action several months and a group of horsemen and horsewomen from New Brunswick have organized the Feb. 4 benefit for him.
The Maritime-based owners of Astronomical (standing at Casimir Farm in Ontario; $2,500 fee) and Feelin Friskie (standing in Ohio; $2,500 fee) have donated breedings for the 2012 season to their stallions.
Brittany Farms has also generously donated a pair of breedings to stallions based in Ontario. Vintage Master is standing his first year at Winbak Farm of Canada for a $3,500 fee and Tell All is standing his second year at Tara Hills Stud for $3,000.
Organizers have also secured autographed driving uniforms from many Ontario reinsmen and a hockey stick autographed by Boston Bruins star Tyler Seguin, among the dozens of items to be auctioned.
A full list of the items will be posted next week on the Horse Racing New Brunswick website.
A raffle draw for a Brodeur race bike will also be held on the day of the auction. A very limited number of tickets remain available for the raffle and are $20 each.
