Darren Trainor, a conditioner in the Maritimes that also boards U.S. horses when they come to Prince Edward Island to race in the Gold Cup and Saucer, recently underwent major heart surgery in Halifax.
Trainor is employed seasonally and will be unable to return to work indefinitely. His wife, Jennifer Doyle, has been on maternity leave. Darren's heart problem was very unexpected and comes at a difficult time of the year, and has resulted in significant financial hardship for the family. Jennifer has incurred expenses to be in Halifax for an extended period during Darren's surgery and his recovery at the Halifax Infirmary. They will need assistance with living expenses for several months while Darren recovers at home.
A number of initiatives are underway to assist this young family, including a benefit dance, and a live and silent auction scheduled for Saturday, February 7 (time and place to be announced), a GoFundMe page, and an account set up at Provincial Credit Union and donations can be made at any Credit Union to the ‘Darren Trainor/Jennifer Doyle Benefit Fund.’
Darren and Jennifer have three young children: Colby, age 11, Cameron, age 4, and Molly, age 1.
