On November 29, Cheering for Charity wrapped up for the season at Truro Raceway. Barona Lilac, joined by the Chief of the Bible Hill Volunteer Fire Brigade, Dwane Mellish, took a trip to the winner's circle where a couple of presentations were made.

The first presentation was to the Bible Hill Kinsmen who received a cheque for $1,000 for participating in the program for the month of November. The second presentation of a cheque for $5,000, was to the Bible Hill Volunteer Fire Brigade for the proceeds of the sale of Ashes To Ashes, a Meridian Farm-bred colt by Driven To Win, that was sold at the NSPE Select Sale in October.

Cheering for Charity donated $7,000 to the participating non-profit organizations, as well as hosted community events at Truro Raceway from May to November this year. The program also received mainstream media coverage across the province and hosted approximately 250 new visitors of all ages to Truro Raceway. Cheering for Charity was incredibly fortunate to have Meridian Farms donate such a great mare for the program and for all the support they have given. Many people have made a special connection with ‘Lilac,’ and organizers couldn't have asked for a more perfect mare for the initiative.

Lilac will have a much deserved break this winter, and if all goes well, organizers hope to see her return to the track for another successful race season next year. As for Cheering for Charity, it is looking into different opportunities over the next few months to see the program grow in 2016.
