Ashes To Ashes made headlines leading up to the recently concluded Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition Select Standardbred Yearling Sale. The successful bid on the Driven To Win colt was to be donated to the Bible Hill Fire Brigade, and members from the brigade were on hand to see how much the bay would fetch.
“Hip #32, Ashes To Ashes, sold for $5,000, which will be donated to the Bible Hill Volunteer Fire Brigade,” Nova Scotia Harness Racing Industry Association Executive Director Robyn Crowe has told Trot Insider.
Members of the brigade were in attendance for the NSPE Select Sale, and were anxious to see how much the colt would sell for. “They were more than thrilled when the highest bid was $5,000,” Crowe said.
“There was a lot of excitement in the crowd as the colt went into the ring to see what price he would bring,” Crowe continued. “The crowd gave a huge round of applause when the hammer was dropped. It was a great initiative that brought the local community and the harness racing community together.”
Crowe stated that, in total, the brigade will receive $6,000 from participating in ‘Cheering for Charity,’ combined with the sale of Ashes To Ashes. The donation will be used to make much needed equipment upgrades.
“A huge thank-you goes out to Meridian Farms and Bill Andrew for another great contribution,” said Crowe, “and to the Bible Hill Volunteer Fire Brigade for taking the time to attend numerous events and becoming part of the harness racing community.”
