Five divisions of two-year-old New York Sire Stakes pacing fillies, worth over $24,000 each, and the first ever appearance by “The Bionic Man,” Tim Tetrick, highlighted a soggy Wednesday night (August 3) at Batavia Downs
Casino.
Tetrick, currently North America’s leading reinsman, notched six wins in the afternoon at Harrah’s Chester and then flew into Batavia where he won five times, including four New York Sire Stakes events.
The most impressive performance of the evening came in the fifth and final division. The Art Major-Observe Me filly Handsoffmycookie remained unbeaten when she opened up an insurmountable lead around the final turn and cruised to a six and a half length score in 1:57.3 for Tetrick and trainer Scott Di Domenico. Handsoffmycookie ($3.30), now at $44,167 in career earnings, is owned by JFE Enterprise LLC.
Tetrick was impressed.
“She took off when I moved her to the front,” Tetrick said. “That’s a really good mile on this racetrack tonight; she just does everything so easy.”
Silk Purse, (Bettors Delight-Silky) began the sire stake festivities when she scored over a racetrack downgraded to sloppy by three-quarters of a length in 1:59.3. Tetrick was in the bike for trainer Linda Toscano and owners Ken Jacobs and Linwood Higgins. Silk Purse ($2.90) is now two-for-four lifetime and sports earnings of $38,812.
Odds-on favourite JK Fine Art ($2.10) remained undefeated when she went on to an easy one and three-quarter length, off the pace score in 1:59.1. Tetrick again was in the bike for Toscano. JK Fine Art (Art Major-Presidential Lady) increased her bankroll to $44,167 for owners 3 Brothers Stables and William Jacobowitz.
Tetrick and Toscano struck again in the third NYSS division, this time with the Art Major-Mommy Robin Q filly Double Major, who exploded out of the pocket to break her maiden for owner Ken Jacobs. Double Major ($9.50) paced in a lifetime best 1:57.3.
Centralia Hanover ($2.50) is now three-for-three in NYSS action. She roared to the top and never looked back in 2:00.1 for owners Rick Phillips and W Springtime Racing Stables. Jim Morrill, Jr. was at the controls for trainer Mark Harder. The Art Major-Calgary Hanover filly increased her lifetime earnings to $44,417.
New York Sire Stakes racing continues at America’s oldest lighted harness track on Friday night. Six divisions, including a non-betting event, for two-year-old colt and gelding trotters headline the program. The non-betting race goes off at 6:15 p.m. The first of 12 pari-mutuel races begins at 6:40 p.m.
