Lexington Selected Yearling Sale Concludes; Average Drops

The fifth and final session of the 2010 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale took place Sunday afternoon at the Fasig-Tipton Sale Pavilion in Lexington, Kentucky with Sturdy As A Hall garnering the highest bid of the day at $42,000

Selling as Hip 680, Sturdy As A Hall was purchased by Gregg McNair of Guelph, Ont. from the Spring Haven Farm consignment. The daughter of Angus Hall-Sturdy Lori is a half-sister to O.S.S. Gold Series winner Eagle Canada ($36,225 - 1:59.2s), who hangs her harness bag in McNair’s barn.

A total of 215 yearlings were sold during Sunday’s auction, and when the hammer fell on the final yearling it lifted this year’s gross in excess of $24.6 million compared to last year’s total which surpassed $27.8 million.

The average yearling price at this year's sale was roughly $31,000, which was down roughly 11 per cent from 2009 when the average was $34,786.
