Shadow Play Triumphs In American National

The Canadian-owned pacing star Shadow Play, added the $300,000 American National Three-Year-Old Colt Pace to his impressive resume on Saturday night at Balmoral Park.

Shadow Play romped to victory with David Miller in the bike for trainer and part-owner Dr. Ian Moore of Charlottetown, P.E.I. and the R G McGroup Ltd. of Bathurst, N.B. and Serge Savard of Saint-Bruno, Que.

Leaving from Post 5, Shadow Play cleared the lead ahead of Corner Blitz (Dave Magee) after a :26.4 first quarter. The post time favourite carved out fractions of :55.1 and 1:23.2 before holding off the first-over challenger, Blueridge Western (Dave Palone) by a head for the win in 1:49.3. Robin I Scoot (Andy Miller) finished third.

The son of The Panderosa improved his record to 16-5-4 in 35 starts and surpassed the million dollar mark in career earnings.

Shadow Play – 3yoCP

In rein to Tim Tetrick, Btwnyurheartnmine powered home in :26.4 to win the $165,000 Three-Year-Old Fillies Pace for trainer Ross Croghan and the Robert Cooper Stables LLC of Boca Raton and the Let It Ride Stables Inc. of Delray Beach, Florida.

Sand Pleasure (David Miller) and Kellys Keepsake (Ron Pierce) powered off the gate, taking turns on the front end, but it was Dragonfest (Dave Magee) who posted the opening panel in :27.1. Btwnyurheartnmine rolled out from fifth en route the half in :55.2 flushing out Sand Pleasure from third. As the field passed the third quarter station in 1:23.4 and turned for home, Btwnyuheartnmine drew off by five lengths for the win in 1:51.

Kellys Keepsake was second and Dont Deny Me (Mike Oosting) came on for third.

The Real Desire miss has put together a record of 9-4-1 in 17 outings including over $417,000 in earnings.

Won The West and driver Greg Grismore triumphed in the $200,000 Older Pace for trainer Mickey Burke and the Strollin Stable of Marion, Bill Robinson and James Koehler of Findlay, Ohio.

Mister Big (Tony Morgan) set the pace with fractions of :27, :54.2 and 1:22.2, while Won The West advanced from third-over and sprinted home in :26.1 to win in 1:49.2.

Won The West's stablemate, Maltese Artist (Yannick Gingras), was the runner-up and Action Figure (Brad Kramer) rounded out the top three. Mister Big faded to eighth.

The four-year-old gelded son of Western Hanover, who has earned over $1.2 million, improved his record to 20-10-5 in 48 starts.

Won The West - Older Pace

With Ron Pierce in tow, Enough Talk prevailed in the $190,000 Older Trot for trainer and co-owner Peter Kleinhans and Jerry Silva of Long Beach, New York.

Digital Image (David Miller) lead the field to first quarter pole in :27.2 where Enough Talk popped out from third and claimed the lead. The fan favourite set the tempo with panels of :55.1 and 1:23.4 and held off the pocket-sitter for the win in 1:52 by half a length. Lanson (Mark O'Mara) came on for third.

The five-year-old son of Enjoy Lavec improved his record to 25-11-12 in 60 starts and lifted his bankroll to almost $1.1 million.

Enough Talk - Older Trot

Doubletrouble and driver Dave Magee also used off-the-pace tactics to pull off a 23-1 upset in the $170,000 Two-Year-Old Colt Pace for trainer Scott Foster and owners Desyllas Racing LLC of Alexander, Carol Rieken of Ashland and William Beck of Edinburg, Illinois.

Gordiesanartist (Kurt Sugg) battled with Smellthecolournine (Tyler Buter) through the opening panels of :27.3 and :54.3 while Doubletrouble sat back in fifth. Schoolkids (Tim Tetrick) advanced to the lead at the third quarter station in 1:23.3, but Doubletrouble powered past in late-stretch to win by a neck in 1:51. Standupnkissme (David Miller) came on for third.

The gelded son of Richess Hanover sports a record of 2-2-3 in 10 career starts with over $100,000 in the bank.

Doubletrouble – 2yoCP

Notjustaprettyface and the hot-handed Tim Tetrick rallied from off the pace to win the $116,000 Two-Year-Old Filly Pace for trainer and co-owner Merv Chupp of Crete, Illinois.

Fox Valley Topaz (Mike Oosting) took command of the field and carved out fractions of :28.2, :57.4 and 1:25.4, but Notjustaprettyface tipped off second-over cover at the top of the stretch and powered home in :26.3 to win by over a length in 1:53.

Thou Shalt Not (Ron Pierce) finished second and Fox Valley Topaz (Mike Oosting) faded to third.

The daughter of Jate Lobell improved her record to 3-2-3 in 12 starts lifting her bankroll to over $280,000.
