Dominant Grinfromeartoear horse Mister Big went wire-to-wire this afternoon at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in the $56,650 Winbak Pace, stopping the clock in 1:51 for driver Brian Sears and trainer Virgil Morgan, Jr.
Won The West (driven by Greg Grismore) finished second and ABs Beach Boy (Ron Pierce) third.
Five-year-old Mister Big left from Post 2, laid the fractions in :27, :55 and 1:23.3 and came home in :27.2.
"We thought we would control the race and not take a chance first over," Morgan said.
"He's got a big motor," said Sears. "When you hit the gas, he can really make some speed."

It seems that the small fields in the Jug and its associated larger purse races are becoming more and more frequent. I wonder if this is of a concern to the LBJ Society and its directors. The Jug and Heat Racing, is one concern, but why the decline in horse numbers in such races as the WinBak (4 total)?..Half Mile track and post position draw ? Purse $$$..
5-10 years ago, there seemed to always be 3 fields of 9 horses..now they can barely gather 2 heats...especially Jugette..the numbers for this race seem to be declining all the time.
Some alternate formats need to be considered without compromising the whole "LBG Theme" to entice Owners of premier horses...Delaware is a special place and the the crowd #'s are up but horses are down..?
