On Saturday at the Fargo Fair in North Dakota, driver Darryl Mason notched the 1,000th victory of his career when he steered Margies Daughter to victory lane.
Margies Daughter, an eight-year-old Pilgrims Punch mare, sat patiently in third for Mason through a first-half mile of :30 and 1:04. Mason moved his charge first-over down the backside and Margies Daughter emerged from a final quarter battle to post a three-quarter length triumph in 2:06.4.
Mason also trains and co-owns Margies Daughter, who is eight-for-25 in 2008 with purses of $10,024, with Sherri Mason.
Mason is in the midst of his best driving season since 1995. In that year, he registered 86 victories and drove the winners of almost $130,000. In 2008, he has made 39 trips to the winner’s circle and has collected earnings of $88,275 – the most since his career year in 1995.
From 7,206 drives, the resident of Killarney, Manitoba has a record of 1,000-1,003-987 with $1,515,626 in total purses.
