Driver John Kovacs enjoyed a two-win performance at Georgian Downs on Tuesday evening, and that was just enough to put the reinsman into the 1,000-win club.
Kovacs, who has driven winners in excess of $7.2 million in his career, clicked in the opener with Were Rolling. The son of Dem Speedy Bones was a comfortable winner in a time of 1:59 for trainer Gord Dancetovic.
The milestone win came with Allamerican Nickel, who rallied to a 1:57.1 score in Race 5 for trainer Terry Newman.
Kovacs, who resides in Hamilton, Ontario, enjoyed a career year in 2004. He netted 119 wins that season and stashed away earnings in excess of $953,000.
