Hanover Raceway held its annual golf tournament yesterday at the Pike Lake Golf Course and close to $4,000 was raised for charity.

In the tournament itself, the team of Gord and Dave Dougan and Dale Fritz won with a score of -14. The team of Gord Waples, Brian Lee, John Dunbar and Joe Coffey were 2nd at -13.

A total of 120 golfers took part in the annual event. This year's tournament included a fundraising raffle and auction for local horseman and blacksmith Gene Girodat, who recently underwent quadruple bypass surgery.

The auction raised $1,898 and the raffle raised $708. In total, $2,606 was raised for Girodat. One thousand dollars was raised through the tournament, and those monies are to be split between two local ball teams.

Hanover Raceway would like to thank Doug Wilson of Wilson Tack, who donated an extreme harness and gave the raceway greatly discounted prices on a number of other items for the auction; Paul Walker and Ken Fritsch, who donated a pair of jogging wheels; Rob Charette of A Touch of Class in Acton, who donated a number of items including a beautiful carpet; Frank Salive, who donated a 1984 mint condition Trot Magazine featuring an article on the great Joe O'Brien, and several others donated items to a raffle draw, and our prize table.

Hanover would also thank the horsemen and golfers that purchased the items, as the day turned out to be a success.
