Cheyenne Trish, the only filly in the field, captured the $60,030 New Jersey Futurity for three-year-old pacers on Saturday, while driver Jack Baggitt, Jr. notched his 2,000th career win at Freehold Raceway.
The New Jersey Futurity, sponsored by the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey (SBOANJ), is open to fillies and colts sired in the state of New Jersey.
Cheyenne Trish [$9.60, $3.40, $2.80] nosed out McCedes [$2.80, $2.10] and driver Daniel Dube at the wire. It was a neck back to Meant To Be Me [$2.20] and Pat Berry in third. McCedes and Meant To Be Me are both by McArdle.
The mile was clocked in 1:54.3 over a surfaced rated good.
A daughter of Artiscape, Cheyenne Trish picked up her seventh win and has finished in-the-money in 14 of 18 attempts this year. Lifetime, she has 11 wins, six seconds and four thirds from 32 starts and earnings of $324,940.
The Robbie Siegelman trainee races in the name of the Cheyenne Gang of Port Washington, New York. Jim Meittinis had the driving assignment.
In other action, driver Jack Baggitt, Jr. recorded his 2,000th career win this afternoon.
Needing two wins to reach the milestone, Baggitt won in the eleventh race with Pjf and in the thirteenth with Laag Text. The two wins on Saturday bring his total to 223 for the year.
The 46-year-old Baggitt, who began his driving career in 1982, enjoyed career bests in 2007 in wins (355) and money won ($2,696,481).
