This morning, owner-breeder-trainer Steve Crevani told Trot Insider that he has supplemented Bullville Powerful to the Meadowlands Pace.
"Economically, it's a bad decision, but I gave him a test Saturday night at the Meadowlands and with the way he responded it made this decision easy," Crevani told Trot Insider.
Saturday's test came in a $30,000 three-year-old Open, where after leaving, re-taking the lead and rolling through hot fractions, Bullville Powerful and driver Yannick Gingras came home in :26.4 to post a one and a half-length victory in 1:49.
The track was rated 'good,' yet no variant was given.
"He won the race handy and came out of it in absolutely great shape," Crevani said about the son of Bettors Delight. "I wrote a registered cheque for $106,000 to get him in to the 'Pace.'"
Bullville Powerful is the first foal out of Crevani's Matts Scooter mare Bullville Gabetti, who has been bred back to Bettors Delight three times since.
Giving much respect to the $1.5 Pepsi North America Cup winner Somebeachsomewhere, Crevani stated that he is excited on the prospect of the two horses meeting in the Pace.
"If he [Somebeachsomewhere] is going to be in there against us, then he [Somebeachsomewhere] is going to have to be on his game -- this horse is that good right now."
Crevani told Trot Insider that the horse was just a little short when he finished a head back in second in the final of the Berry's Creek in May, but that the horse is peaking right now. Considering a slight suspensory tear shortened his freshman campaign on September 8, 2007 at Vernon Downs, for the horse to be where he is now speaks volumes.
"We haven't seen his best yet," said Crevani. "We'll definitely need some post help, but we are excited."
