Two-year-old trotting fillies were back in the spotlight at Harrah’s Hoosier Park Racing & Casino on Wednesday, Sept. 6 as they squared off in round five of Indiana Sires Stakes action. Two $66,000 divisions were sent postward on the evening’s 14-race card.
Skyway Paige and driver LeWayne Miller continued their winning ways in the opening division after they led gate to wire to score in 1:56. Using a :27.2 closing kick, Skyway Paige trotted home strongly to hold off Truly Unbelievable and Kyle Husted and the heavily favoyred Ponda Title and Kyle Wilfong. Sent off as the betting public’s second choice, Skyway Paige returned $5 for the victory.
Trained by Susan Miller, the daughter of Swan For All-Prismatica has now won three of eight lifetime starts and earned $106,545 in lifetime purse earnings. Skyway Paige is owned in partnership by Hoosier Standardbred Farm, Ryan Raber, L And S Racing and Anthony Swartzentruber.
In the second division, Somebody Special (pictured above) and Trace Tetrick utilized similar tactics to get the job done in 1:55.3. Somebody Special left alertly and dug in gamely late in the lane to hold off Agent Of Fortune and Robert Taylor on the outside and favourite Starlit Dora and Michael Oosting on the inside. Somebody Special got the victory by a neck and established a new lifetime best in the process. She paid $7.40 to win as the 5-2 second choice.
Trained by Erv Miller, Somebody Special has now won four of five lifetime starts. The homebred daughter of Swan For All-Lima Simplicity is owned by Ervin Miller Stable and Geis Enterprise and has now earned $81,860.
Both Skyway Paige and Somebody Special have now won two legs of the Indiana Sires Stakes.
Indiana Sires Stakes action will continue at Harrah’s Hoosier Park Racing & Casino on Thursday, Sept. 7 with with two divisions for two-year-old trotting colts and geldings. With a daily post time of 6:15 p.m, live racing at Hoosier Park will be conducted through Dec. 9.
