'Lucky Lady' Takes Matchmaker Pace

Sams Lucky Lady didn’t know much about the Ohsweken fair track, having recently been purchased by her owner/trainer David Daignault at the recent Springfield, Ohio sale. But her pilot Jody Jamieson—returning to his very early roots of racing—used a well-timed gate move to shoot to the front with Sams Lucky Lady in a front-stepping victory in the $2,000 Matchmaker Pace at the Six Nations Fall Fair on Saturday, September 7.

The seven-year-old mare by The Panderosa led through fractions of :32, 1:03.4 and 1:34. Mighty Mouse mounted a first-over charge passing the half and nearing three-quarters but began to retreat rounding the final turn. Pocket-sitter Twin B J J then challenged the pacesetter late but finished a half-length short of victory in a 2:04.3 mile.

The victory earned Sams Lucky Lady a free 2020 breeding to Dali courtesy of owner Ace Burrows who, along with his family, joined in the winners circle presentation. Dave Daigneault trains the winner.

All participating horsemen were treated to a buffet lunch, as well as fall horse coolers for each racer courtesy of the Six Nations Agricultural Society.

Chief G. Ava Hill welcomed participants and fans alike to Ontario’s only offering of fair harness racing in 2019.

I’d like to thank all those involved for putting on a spectacular event. The food was great, the racing was competitive, and we had fun. Fair racing is what this sport needs. We brought the horses to the people and that’s the way to attract new fans. Hopefully we will see more of these events in the future.
