The top trotting class at Rideau Carleton Raceway now belongs to Warrawee Xalt.
He's now won six of his last 10 starts in the Preferred Handicap Trot at the Ottawa-area oval, including his last three while also being assigned the outermost starting spot in the two most recent.
Ryan Guy shot Warrawee Xalt off the starting gate from post six in the $10,000 Preferred Handicap Trot on Thursday, Sept. 5, and the 9-5 second choice landed on the lead with relative ease. There was no competition through fractions of :28, :57.2 and 1:25, and that was evident by the seven-length advantage he had on the field. A half-minute final panel sealed the deal, hitting the wire in 1:55 with 4-3/4 lengths to spare. Black Tie Bash (Robert Shepherd) edged out The Great Emotion (Pascal Berube) for the place position.
Warrawee Xalt (Royalty For Life - Noble Peace Prize) picked up his eighth win of the season and 21st lifetime to lift his career earnings to $266,380. He's trained by Patrick Dillion, the co-owner along with Patti Hoskin of Port Hope, Ont. He paid $5.90 to win.
