Canadian trotting superstar San Pail and his Port Perry, Ontario breeder and co-owner Glenn Van Camp will be awarded one of their community's highest honours next month.

San Pail and Van Camp will be inducted into the Scugog Sports Hall of Fame on Oct. 25 along with five other local athletes.

Trained by co-owner Rod Hughes, the reigning Horse of the Year in both Canada and the United States has won 51 races while earning over $3 million in purses en route to capturing the hearts of harness racing fans across the continent. Named Canada's top older trotter for the past three consecutive years, San Pail has won three editions of the Maple Leaf Trot, along with last year's Glorys Comet Series, Nat Ray, Credit Winner, Allerage, and Breeders Crown.

San Pail was further recognized at the national level by Equine Canada when he was named their 2011 Canadian Bred Horse of the Year. The gelding was also celebrated during the Equine Festival's Parade of Champions at the Lindsay Fairgrounds earlier this year in May.

While the son of San Pellegrino out of the Balanced Image mare Village Beauty was forced to sit out for most of his eight-year-old campaign due to a right-hind ankle injury, his connections have reported that the prognosis for his return to the track next season is good.

The other Scugog Sports Hall of Fame inductees include John Scott (hockey), Terry Travis McMillen (archery), William Harper (softball), the 1968 Port Perry Ballard Lumber Juvenile C Squad, and builder William Alfred Huggins.

Please join Standardbred Canada in congratulating San Pail and Glenn Van Camp on their Scugog Sports Hall of Fame induction.
