Eagle Luck and I D K closed out Saturday night's harness racing card at Charlottetown Driving Park with victories in a pair of $5,000 eliminations for the inaugural Island Pacing Championship.

The Island Pacing Championship, presented by Meridian Farms, is a new Open event for pacers that are three years old and older. The $10,000 (added) final will be held on Atlantic Breeders Crown Sunday (Oct. 7) and a consolation will be carded on the previous Saturday (Oct. 6).

In the first elimination, millionaire pacer Eagle Luck ($6.90) rallied home off the cover of Arabica (Kenny Arsenault) to defeat that rival by one length in 1:56.3 over the sloppy track. Le Fugueur (Marc Campbell) and Joseph Michael (Walter Cheverie) finished third and fourth, respectively. Jason Hughes trains and drives the nine-year-old son of Camluck for Ohio's Frank Dettore Horse Racin.

Four-year-old Stand Forever gelding I D K ($18.30) fought Lisfinny (Norris Rogers) for the lead early on and then held off favourite Mcapulco (Gilles Barrieau) to win his elimination by a nose in 1:57.2. Leading Camdidate (Jason Hughes) finished third and All Turain (Marc Campbell) was fourth. Driver Vincent Poulton and trainer Gary Poulton share ownership of the winner with Charlottetown's Gail Macdonald.

Earlier on the card, Mitchell and David Tierney's trotting star Waiting On A Woman won the weekly $1,800 Open Trot in his return to the East Coast after racing in Ontario for most of his four-year-old campaign. With Brodie MacPhee in the bike, the Northern Bailey gelding romped to a five length victory in 2:00.4.
