For the most part, Sir Ziggys Z Tam was overlooked from a pari-mutuel point of view in Monday’s $12,000 Open I Pace. The pacer, who was sent off at odds of 13-1, rallied to an impressive win – one that put a smile on the faces of the longshot players.

Mike Simons got away fourth with the J. D. Perrin trainee while Seel The Deal N shot to the top from Post 7 and carved out panels of :27, :55.4 and 1:22. Sir Ziggys Z Tam, who never left the rail during those intervals, shook loose in the lane and powered home in :28.2 to win by 1-1/2 lengths over Seel The Deal N in 1:51.3. Dreams Beachboy was third.

It was the second straight score for Sir Ziggys Z Tam, who now boasts a 9-1-0 record from 12 trips postward this season. The 36-time winner, who is closing in on $900,000 in career earnings, is owned by Tessa Roland of Lackawanna, NY.

Time Out Im Tired was a down the road winner fir driver Aaron Byron in the $10,000 Open II Pace. The Joseph Skowyra pupil led the field through fractions of :26.4, :55.4 and 1:23.2 before kicking home in :28.1 to win by three-quarters of a length over Pretty Boy Swag in 1:51.3. Third prize went to Spirit Shadow.

It was the third win of the season and the 17th to date for the career winner of $184,488. The six-year-old son of Artiscape-Badlands Laura is a homebred owned by Delaware partners William Mears and Janine McIlvain
