A 20-race Saturday matinee marathon highlighting Florida-breds will kick off the 2009-2010 season at Pompano Park.
The non-wagering program starts at 10:00 a.m. and will feature two and three-year-olds in the Florida Sunshine State Stakes.
While many of the two year-olds will be making their career debuts, one juvenile pacing filly has already caught the eyes of many harness racing aficionados in South Florida.
Isle of View Too, a daughter of Macadream, made its first pari-mutuel start at Lexington’s Red Mile in mid-August and promptly toured that oval in 1:55.4 for driver Jeff Smith and trainer Tom Audley.
Audley owns the filly in partnership with Randy Laffer and Ellen Ann Huxley-Laffer. The filly will be competing in the second race and will have the driving services of Bruce Ranger.
In the two-year-old colt division, yet another prodigy of Macadream, Goldstar Patriot D, also comes off of a sharp effort at the Red Mile.
Owned by Susan Lapp of Tamarac, Florida and also trained by Tom Audley, Goldstar Patriot D comes off of a 1:57.2 win -- once again for driver Jeff Smith.
Among the sophomores competing on Saturday are Pearl of Capri and Storming Howard, both winners on last season’s Super Night program.
Pearl of Capri, a daughter of Famously owned by F & I Racing (Frank and Inga Smith), will make its long-awaited three-year-old debut. The filly comes into the action on a 10-race winning streak for trainer Veral Bowman and will have Bruce Ranger handling her lines.
Storming Howard was six for 12 last year as a two-year-old and took a mark of 1:54.4 for trainer Michile Lorenzo.
The son of Mannart Howard makes its first start of the year for owners Lorenzo, Hancock, Jr., Gentile and the Pomtambo Stable.
Ranger will also be in the bike back of Storming Howard.
Also, Goldstar Rosie, last year’s two-year-old Florida-bred pacing queen, will look to regain its championship form of 2008 when it goes postward in a division for the three-year-old pacing fillies.
'Rosie,' a daughter of Rock On, is looking for its first win of the year after going seven for eight last year.
Trained by Tom Audley, Goldstar Rosie will be driven by Bruce Ranger.
