Dejeuner Tops Lexington Selected Opening Session

The opening session of the 2025 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale got underway on Monday (Sept. 29) where the Walner-French Cafe filly Dejeuner garnered the most attention with a $1.38 million ($1 million USD) price tag to top day one.

Selling as hip 70, Dejeuner was purchased by Noel Daley who served as agent for Winning Key of Chesterfield, New Jersey. Kentuckiana Farms consigned the half sister to 2024 Elegantimage winner, French Champagne (1:51.4 - $739,033).

Hip 94, Turtle Dove brought the second highest price of the session, With Jeff Snyder and SRF of New York, New York purchasing the daughter of Walner for $1,250,000 ($900,000 USD). Hunterton Sales Agency consigned the first foal from 2019 Hambletonian Oaks and Dan Patch Award Winner, When Doves Cry (1:50 - $2,200,263).

Hip 4, Tyndall completed the trio of trotting fillies who topped the first day as she brought the hammer down at $1,111,111 ($800,000 USD). Hunterton Sales Agency also consigned the daughter of Gimpanzee-Southwind Serena who was purchased by Martinez Equine of York, Pennsylvania as an agent. Tyndall is a half-sister to the likes of World Champion Mission Brief (1:50.2 - $1,657,399) and stallion Tactical Landing (1:50.2 - $812,300). 

Hip 50, Valorous topped the trotting colts on the night, garnering a price of $798,611 ($575,000). The son of Alrajah One IT was consigned by Cameo Hill Farms and purchased by David McDuffee of Rye, New Hampshire. Valorous is the first foal from Mohawk Million and 2021 O'Brien Award Winner, Venerable (1:52 - $1,348,176).

Hip 44, Seaside Ubeaut was highest priced pacer of the first session, with the daughter of Downbytheseaside being purchased by Andrew Harris as agent for William Pollack of Allentown, New Jersey for $694,444 ($500,000 USD). Consigned by Crawford Farms, the colt is the second foal from World Champion and multiple time Dan Patch award winner, Warrawee Ubeaut (1:48.3 - $2,002,455) and a half-brother to Kentucky Sire Stakes champion, Ubrute (1:49.4 - $400,301).

Hip 93, Social Hour was bought for the same $694,444 ($500,000 USD) price as Al Libfeld of Pickering, Ontario purchased the daughter of Walner-Lonely Lady. Hunterton Sales Agency consigned the filly who is a full-sister to Walner Payton (1:51.4 - $850,689).

In total, 120 yearlings went through the ring on day one for total sales of $30,279,167 ($21,801,000 USD) with an average price of $252,326 ($181,675 USD). Sixty-nine colts sold with an average bid of $201,047 (144,754 USD) while fifty-one fillies sold for an average price of $321,704 ($231,627 USD).

Last year's sale had 117 yearlings on the opening night with total sales of $30,127,027 ($22,294,000 USD) with an average sales price of $257,496 ($190,547 USD). This year's gross was down 2.3 per cent while the average was down 4.7 per cent.

The sale will continue on Tuesday through Thursday with 1 p.m. sessions and wrap up on Friday night at 7 p.m.
