Carnivore Wins Philip Doucette Memorial

Carnivore, with trainer Marvyn Webster in the bike, won the feature event named in honour of Philip Doucette on Sunday at Red Shores Summerside in 1:56.1.

Webster sent the pacer to the top from post two and laid down fractions of :28.2, :57.4 and 1:27. The son of Real Desire held off a late challenge from Cambest Kisser and Carrera Angel to notch his third win from nine starts this year for Valleygrove Farms of Kensington, P.E.I. Family and friends of the late Prince County Horsemen’s Club president were trackside for the cooler presentation.

Driver Jason Hughes enjoyed a career day at the Prince County oval with five winners on the program.

The Stratford, P.E.I. resident put Jersey Joe on the point to deliver as the post time favourite in the Henry Doucette Memorial in race seven. The seven-year-old son of Matts Scooter posted his second win from 16 starts this season for trainer Deanna Clow and her co-owner Mitchell Tierney of Roseneath, Ont. Roccos Cavallo was second with Ultimate Success third.

The “Blue Knight” also had wins aboard his own trainee Beckenbauer and Ima Fancy King, giving Jansen Sweet his first career training victory. Outside The Wire, conditioned by Craig Avery, and Ralph Sweet's Casimir Luciano wrapped up Hughes' productive day at the office.

Norris Rogers recorded four winners on the program. Rogers got the action rolling taking the first two races with Athenas Pride for Dale Sobey and Mayhem Man for the Jay Noye stable. The Summerside native then paraded Sendmeasign to victory lane in the fifth for Alex Sobey and drove Lucky Encounter to top honours in the eighth race for Dale Sobey.
