PHHA Sends Out Legislative Alert

The Pennsylvania Harness Horse Association today issued a 'legislative alert' to its members in regard to the recent-announced news that the state could see two per cent of slot machine revenue diverted from the Pennsylvania Horse Race Development Fund to non-horse-racing areas.

The issue, according to the PHHA release, appears below.

Despite our efforts during the past two months, the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development Fund is under new attack by the state house and senate. There are reports that certain members are planning to cut it severely by tapping into it for four consecutive years in a desperate attempt to help balance the state budget. At the same time, table games, if passed, may or may not negatively effect slot revenue and reduce purses even further. The PHHA supports the passage of table game legislation because it is good for the overall financial health of state casinos, which in turn helps provide a more stable foundation for us. However, a cut to the Race Horse Development fund would cause Pennsylvania to immediately become non-competitive with neighboring states and could lead to the collapse of Pennsylvania racing, its infrastructure and related businesses.

The PHHA offers a solution in its release, followed by a 'call to action.'
