Former Alberta stakes winner and WEG campaigner Balanchine was in the spotlight at Charlottetown Driving Park on Saturday night with a winning effort in the featured $2,200 Preferred Pace.

With Walter Cheverie in the sulky, favourite Balanchine ($4.10) rallied three-wide at the third quarter mark and kicked home to collar pacesetter I D K and Vincent Poulton at the wire in 1:55.1. Wellthereyougo, driven by Brodie MacPhee, finished nearly four lengths behind in third.

The eight-year-old Blissfull Hall gelding is trained by Jackie Matheson and owned by Joey Gallant of Charlottetown and Mike Pollard of Stratford, P.E.I. The victory was his third in five starts on the East Coast and marked the 43rd time he's visited the winner's circle over the course of his career.
