The Lady Slipper Stakes rolled into Charlottetown Driving Park on Thursday night and featured multiple streaking trotters who continued their winning ways
. A pair of $7,800 Lady Slipper Stakes divisions for two-year-olds were contested along with three $6,350 splits three-year-olds.
Fresh off a victory in the PEI Colt Stakes last Thursday, The Iceman Aireth dominated the opening Lady Slipper division for freshmen with trainer Mike Campbell in the sulky for Greenoaks Farm of Mississauga, ON. The son of Northern Bailey-Gracie Glide won by three and three-quarter lengths in 2:07.1 with Harmony T (Leonard Myers) second and Crystal Bailey (Paul Lanigan) back in third. The win was his third in nine outings and bumped his bankroll to $15,430.
In the next division, Waiting On A Woman advanced to the lead past the opening quarter and kicked away by six and three-quarter lengths to win for the fourth consecutive time in 2:02.1. Maple Leaf Spirit (Ralph Annear) and B J High Meadow (Bert Honkoop) rounded out the top three. Corey MacPherson drove the winning son of Northern Bailey-Southwind Faith for trainer Mitchell Tierney, who also co-owns with David Tierney of Cornwall, PE. Waiting On A Woman is now seven-for-nine with $24,434 earned.
PEI Colt Stakes winner Howmacs Amigo, owned by Howmac Farms Ltd. of North Wiltshire, PE, kicked off the sophomore stakes action with a life’s-best 2:02.2 victory for teamster Earl Smith and trainer Earl Watts. The Amigo Hall-Wicked Whisper gelding pulled the pocket after the half-mile mark and opened up six and a half lengths on the field to notch his third win in 10 seasonal starts. Unstoppable Image (Ronnie Gass) and Rustico Nicky (Edward Smallwood) finished second and third. Howmacs Amigo’s 2010 earnings climbed to $9,711.
In the next split, B J Eldorado settled for a pocket trip as divisional heavyweight Scarlet Patti (Darryl MacLean) took control past the opening quarter, but then out-sprinted him in the stretch to prevail by a quarter length in 2:03. Rustico Tapdancer (Joey Pineau) finished two and a quarter lengths behind in third. B J Eldorado extended his win streak to five and picked up his eighth victory in 10 starts this season for Bert Honkoop, who owns, trains and drives the homebred son of Meadowagogo-Leap Year Hanover. He has earned $18,877 so far this season.
Kims Pjs also made it five in a row as he left from Post 7 and carved out all the fractions in the final sophomore trot to win in 2:02.4 with Porter (Kenny Arsenault) following one-length behind and Diamond Mine (MacPherson) rounded out the top three. The son of Pjs Nabby-Kimsan, five-for-seven on the year with $13,650 banked, is owned, trained and driven by Garry Macdonald.
