Trainer Richard Moreau swept Thursday’s Preferred events for trotters at Flamboro Downs, and one of the efforts was a track and Canadian record-equalling performance.
Murmur Hanover, handled by Travis Henry, was a down-the-road winner in the $11,000 Preferred 2 for trotters. His 1:55 score matched Stormont Lancelot’s track and Canadian mark for older trotting geldings.
Henry put the six-year-old son of Majestic Son-Mrs Ronerail on the lead from Post 6 and together they led the group through fractions of :27.4, :57.1 and 1:26 before using a :29-second kicker to seal the deal. He won by 1-1/4 lengths over Delcrest Massy, with In Secret rounding out the top three finishers.
Richard Berthiaume of Pointe-Aux-Trembles, QC owns the OSS graduate who won for the 17th time in his career while pushing his lifetime earnings over $725,000.
Murmur Hanover’s stablemate, Big Rich, also front-stepped to victory lane in the $7,500 Preferred 3 for trotters. Alfie Carroll put the Moreau pupil on the lead from Post 1, and the gelding chopped out panels of :27.4, :57.4 and 1:26.3 before cruising home in a :31-second clip to win by 3-3/4 lengths over Lets Leavem. Sandy Hook Road was third.
Sent off at even-money, Big Rich won for the fifth time this season and for the 12th time in his career. The four-year-old son of Donato Hanover-Kidman Hall is quickly closing in on $200,000 in earnings for the partnership of 9099 3733 Quebec Inc of Sorel-Tracy, QC and Frank Spagnolo of Ottawa, Ont.
